I understand and share your aversion to law suits. I've never sued anyone for anything and am quite sure I never will.

We already HAVE a way of finding societal consensus - the ballot box.

The ballot box is not consensus, it is majority rule. Consensus is something that both the majority and minority can live with, not the perfect solution for either. A majority has no motivation to seek consensus because it has the upper hand unless is is enlightened. One of the roles of the judicial system is to protect the minority from the tyranny of the majority. It would not be called on to do so so often were the majority a bit less selfish and more considerate or simply more enlightened in its approach to satisfying its long-term best interests.

I think you have to make up your mind for yourself on whether this is a big deal.

I always think it's a big deal when people are being cavalierly dissed by society. I'm constitutionally incapable of looking the other way.

A lot of people are tired of giving an inch.

I understand that. I don't want them to give another inch, only listen, understand, empathize, tolerate.

If you don't think there is political suicide in this issue why has the overwhelming political response been one-sided?

Because people are too stupid or stubborn or angry to see anything but two conflicting sides. It would not be political suicide, I don't think, to take the approach I suggested. You still haven't told me on what basis it would.

He will sue again.

If nothing changes, he will. He's just stubborn and self-centered and stupid enough.
