You make some excellent points in you post. Thanks for the response.

You have answered your own question, however. IBM, HWP, GTW, and CPQ all have the resources to compete on Dell's turf viciously. I believe CPQ has made the conscious decision to do so. Execution is the only thing that stands in their way. Can they do it? I don't know.

My personal opinion is that Dell has created a stockholder following that has rationalized a price that is not likely to stand the test of competition. Dell is likely to stumble and the zealots, as zealots do, will run for cover.

Such is not the case for MSFT, CSCO and very few others. Execution is just one of their competitive advantages.
