John,

Thus, my wife and I are beginning to accumulate two sets of shares on companies. One set is a long term buy and hold set; a second is short term cc writing.

I think that makes a lot of sense for a lot of people for a lot of good reasons. However, for someone who like me simply doesn't buy a stock unless it's with the intention of holding it for a very long term, buying shares for the purpose of writing calls isn't an option. (No pun intended. :)

Once I get deeper into this morass, I may be willing to write against all our shares in a company. We'll see.

I wouldn't make that a goal. Don't be at all surprised to see me one day writing against a portion of a holding. Depending on the amount of income I want to generate and what I consider the relative risks to be, I can easily see using a different tactic to accomplish my goal.
