Irony So Thick You Could Cut It With A Knife

Say Anything

Rep. Nancy Pelosi recently had this to say about Republicans…

<<<

The Republicans are taking food out of the mouths of children to give tax cuts to America’s wealthiest. This is not a statement of America’s values.
>>>

…right before she voted herself a nice pay raise.

Now that takes some nerve.

On a related note, I thought this quote from a Washington Post article that ran last friday (the one with the Pelosi quote from above) was interesting:

<<<

In the final hours of a tumultuous week in the Capitol, Democrats erupted in fury when House GOP leaders maneuvered toward a politically-charged vote _ and swift rejection _ of one war critic’s call for the withdrawal of troops from Iraq. “You guys are pathetic, pathetic,” Massachusetts Rep. Martin Meehan yelled across a noisy hall at Republicans.
>>>

Republican Rep. Jean Schmidt has been taking a lot of heat for passing along a message that pretty much called Democrats a bunch of cowards (rightfully so, in my mind), but this is the first time I heard about Rep. Meehan’s calling Republicans “pathetic.”

Why is one any worse than the other?

Seems to me that if the media is going to criticze politicians for saying inappropriate things they should include the guy shouting that the other side is “pathetic” in the halls of congress.

Or does the media only hold Republicans to those standards?
