Before we had kids, we did some genetic testing. Turns out, I am not a carrier. Since the trait is recessive, there is no chance our kids will have the condition. The problem occurs when of two parents, both are either carriers or one actually has the condition and the other is a carrier.

My understanding of human genetics is in the first case, a 25% chance offspring will be affected, in the second 3 out of 4.
