OT...OT

errr TDFX is actually the standard 3d video card just for the record
......but visit any computer retailer and stop by the the software section.. whos name is on those boxes in bold 3d?

just a correction from a TDFX shareholder... Thanks!

What you see in retail is a different segment I guess from
OEM business. I use Dells which have the Nvidia chips.
Their SEC link at Yahoo indicates they supply to Compaq,
DELL, Gateway, IBM, Micron and go on Intel motherboards...
...so that sounds pretty standard to me. If I remember correctly
TDFX has a proprietary API which game programmers use but
there is new competition from SGI API and Microsoft API
and they lose a lock in of applications with that.

My guess the right answer is there is no "standard" 3D card.
They all have their pluses and differentiate themselves with
features or price and you can get what you want.
But no more from me....I will leave it for people who
invest there to take it up on the right thread. If I
get the courage to buy in that sector again I will look
at TDFX again. I was not really pitching Nvidia over your
favourite TDFX but it showed up on this thread (and how we
wish it had not :-)) and I have it in my PCs so I mentioned my
impressions...which may be incorrect. I have been out of that
sector for many months but I know things change fast there.
