The point is that the man made every single point that Bush, Rumsfeld, and Powell is making now. Of course, he lacked the backbone to back up his words with action, just like he lacks the backbone to stand by his words today. No surprise, given his utter lack of credibility. I think you're on to something. They supported him because they knew he lacked the backbone to stand by his words. In other words, they supported him because they didn't believe him. Ha! It is actually starting to make sense. ;-) JJ
