Ranting Profs - THAT'S NERVE
By Cori Dauber

Sandy Berger just claimed, on the list of things intelligence stopped from happening, the plot to blow up multiple planes over the Pacific in the mid-1990s. Nice try. Ramzi Yousef and his roommate were experimenting with explosives and got a little over-eager; they started a fire in the Manila apartment they were staying in. When they realized the fire department was on its way they hauled out of there and left behind the lap top that had the plot, OpPlan Bojinka, laid out on it. The Phillipine Police, looking at the lap top, realized it was something the FBI would want to take a look at and called them.
You tell me how smart intelligence had anything to do with that.

I don't doubt that there have been intelligence successes along the way but it irks me when the Clinton people try and bulk up their record with this kind of slight of hand. If anything, it is very unclear they connected that episode (or Yousef) to al Queda at the time.
