Ed, The Canadian government is not going after MSFT the way the DOJ is. Any smart world goverment would not attack its power base (ie its own generals) except the USA. Why? They don't see foreign tech companies as a serious challenge. For the American's sake, I hope they don't overdue it with MSFT and INTEL, which is its power base.
It is too bad the DOJ does not realize this and is thinking very narrowly. However, when it comes to sort of remedy(assuming a DOJ win), any DOJ proposal is going to get watered down in big way(heavy political influence). The DOJ lawyers will be left thinking "what was the point of the whole thing?".
Anybody remember how Japanese electronics just flooded the market. Even if the US market is not a success for some Japanese or European software or hardware company, the lost foreign markets will cut into US high tech profits. I bet the politicians are not going to let that happen.
