If my memory is right the discovery holes would have been 100m in length using a 2" or 2.25" diameter diamond drill .
This is the least expensive method and the core being so compressed can shatter larger stones.
An 8" diameter will have less tendancy to crush the contents and naturally greater weight of core is extracted.
I am curious as to how deep they intend to drill with the 8" core . A few holes will produce bulk quickly. A couple of holes in each pipe will produce tons of core.
