Safeway enters the online market.. foxmarketwire.com If a major Bricks and Mortar Company like Safeway is realizing that they have to be in the online grocery business, this is validation that this business model is destined to succeed. Who is the major grocer in Northern California? Safeway! They see those Webvan trucks driving all over the Bay and their beginning to feel the effects of 80+ thousand customers turning in their Safeway Club cards for the conveinence of Webvan. This isn't just the grocery business as many have noted. The distribution and delivery system that Webvan has so many applications to the online commerce community, that, once established, they will be eyed by every major online retailer as a major mode of distribution. Wait and see.
