"Oracle is nothing like Informix and I doubt that much about Oracle's worst-case future can be learned from the demise of Informix."

Don't get me wrong. I'm a huge supporter of Oracle. It's just that I learned a long time ago to "never say never."

The landscape is strewn with once mighty tech companies who were also very profitable but are now history. Remember Ashton-Tate? Lotus? (now IBM). WordPerfect? Netscape? The once unstoppable WordStar? (Stop laughing! There are still many loyal WS users out there and you risk offending them.)

;-)

I agree, Oracle is nothing like IFMX. But at one time all the other companies listed above dominated their industry just like Oracle. Then some upstart or giant came along and demolished them.

I don't want or expect this to happen to Oracle. I have a significant position and truly believe happy days will be here again. However, I "never say never" and I'm hedging my bets.
