No that's not necessary. I would think that the name is setting it off. It's also possible that it is the virus and not the installed notepad.exe.

Do you have up-to-date virus protection on the machine that notepad.exe resides on? Have you tried system file checker? I would think that is your best option.
There are many free substitutes for notepad available for download. Perhaps one of them would be the best choice for you.
