hi bob
"Ahhhhh, an upgrade.<G>"
LOL! i think i'll keep it intact for just awhile longer. at least until i get npf2001 to complement it. and as i mentioned to you the other day, i think i may have a copy of npf2001 coming my way here before long. <g3>
btw, i just ran into some symantec security upgrade install issues on my other machine, similar to the probs i was having on my main system. i posted to the online support group, but in the meantime, i emailed that R&D person who was so helpful. i was not at all surprised by what followed...
message board dude told me to try something that i clearly stated in my post i had already tried. it was like i knew he was going to tell me to reboot, so i told him i had rebooted several times, and he comes back and says, "you should try rebooting". wow, is that ever exasperating! then, message board dude told me to, guess what, uninstall and then reinstall. i coulda' bet $1000 i was going to get that response.
naturally, i am not even coming close to following message board dude's advice when along comes email from R&D person. he asks for a copy of some sections of the 'product catalog' file in the npf liveupdate folder. i quickly fire the sections off to him, and he writes back that i should back everything up, then try editing two lines in the 'product catalog' file. i followed his instruction, it took 5-10 minutes to do so. bingo! all fixed up.
meanwhile, message board dude is having me uninstall and reinstall and inviting me to post back if i have further questions. yikes!!
clearly a case of one person understanding his company's software, and the other guy just tossing out text book phrases because he doesn't know what else to do!
so i'm good to go with that entire security update (remember, my driver versions were not reaching 2.55.50?) on two separate machines, PLUS..... i have an inside track to a R&D person who ROCKS!
<g3>
why is this man smiling?
:)
