I can vouch for John's feedback on that one. We were always very rules-oriented, so that rule was in there so we could dust it off and use it if someone was, for example, harassing a person or thread through sheer posting volume (usually frivolous posts) rather than specifically with the contents of the post.

In other words, posting more than 20 posts in 6 hours would never raise an eyebrow, but if someone posted, say, 50 posts in an hour with each post just containing "Click", we'd throw that particular page of the book at them.

At the unmentionable other site, we address the same situation slightly differently: software-imposed posting limitations. Same intent, though. If someone doesn't have a lot to say, but says a lot anyway, both sites try to discourage that.
