Close but backwards -- we decided that 50,000 lives was too high a price to pay for the pleasure of denying them their freedom. Vietnam is far, far, far from being a perfect place -- politically or economically. But at least they are free to work it out themselves, as they have been doing for the past 30 years. Good choices or bad choices - at least they are their choices.
