Rep. Gregg Harper: Administration Can't Be Trusted

Wednesday, 30 Oct 2013 05:49 PM

U.S. Rep. Gregg Harper says Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius' apology on Tuesday for the problems plaguing the Affordable Care Act was too little, too late, because the Obama administration is no longer trustworthy.

"I was glad she apologized, and that was a good thing," Harper, a Republican from Mississippi, told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

..
.But there's so many things here that we don't trust about this administration," he said Wednesday. "They've tried to downplay everything in this situation, and it's a disaster."

Harper said the administration's tone when attempting to explain the growing number of glitches in the new healthcare law shows "almost an arrogance here of 'don't mess with us,' and goes back to the 'trust us' philosophy."

"You can fix the software issue, ... but you can't fix the part where people don't like it and they don't want to be a part of it. And they can't give us any numbers, any facts."

Harper said he is disturbed by reports that the president was unaware of the website glitches until days after they began.

"Being told repeatedly [by the administration that] this was ready and ... [now] having a president who they're saying didn't know [that it wasn't]," he said.

"I don't know what I'm more comforted [by] or more upset about: if the president knew and kept saying you could keep your health insurance plans and knew you really couldn't, or if he didn't know [in the first place]."
