Lycopene is an anti-oxidant found in the solanceae family, chiefly dietarily in tomatoes and specifically in ground tomatoes and sauces, and is used therapeutically by alternative medicine. It is thought it may have anti-cancer properties with regard especially to prostate cancer. AS with many other natural substances found to a degree in the diet of some resistant populations and which is touted by alternative therapists, its causative effect are debated.
