jesse,

Canada already acts essentially as a colony of the U.S. as far as energy is concerned.

One of the most outrageous scams of the Bush decline is the fraud being perpetrated on the public by the beef industry. Canadian beef is every bit as safe as is U.S. beef, yet there is a hysteria regarding "mad cow disease" that closed the border to Canadian beef. The result has been the ruination of hundreds of ranching families in Alberta, etc. And a doubling of the retail price of beef in the U.S., which is a gift from George Bush to his bribers in the feedlot bidness.

The Albertans are correctly mad as hell about this scam. And they went to Paul Martin, the Canadian PM and suggested that as long as America didn't want any Canadian beef, that Canada should withhold all Canadian energy from the U.S. Martin meekly put his tail between his legs, buried his head in the tar sands of Alberta and said that it would be impossible for Canadians to show the least bit of a backbone in any trade dispute. It was as pathetic and treasonous a stance as any taken by a Canadian PM in living memory.
