9/18/2020 Contest update
(Contest and Index YTDs are calculated from 1/3/2020 close.)
As a kid, my parents would get rid of me for the summer by sending me to a sleepaway camp. The highlight of each summer would be “Color War.” Campers and counselors were divided into two colors and there would be various competitions between the two teams, mostly sports but also original theatrical and musical performances. Judging from recent statements by President Trump, the U.S. is now engaging in a Covid-19 “Color War.” Trump, apparently, is rooting for more Covid-19 deaths in the “blue states.”
Here’s a report on the red vs. blue Covid-19 death rate competition as of a couple of days ago:

Speaking of colors, for biotechs it was a very green week, with the Contest median even a shade greener than the biotech indexes. And although just one portfolio held IMMU, its buyout by Gilead clearly rubbed off on other portfolio biotechs.
Meanwhile, at Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 17.51% YTD (vs. up 5.96% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 15.15% YTD (vs. up 8.10% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 24.41% YTD (vs. up 11.66% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 19.65% YTD (vs. up 20.32% YTD a week ago).
Contest leader JBOG’s portfolio had another TRILling week and now boasts an awesome 258.99% YTD gain. FILO’s portfolio, up 207.71% YTD, held on second place and MASTER’s portfolio, up 114.55% YTD, moved into third place.
At Friday's close, 29 of the 42 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 23 beating the NBI and 14 still beating the SPSIBI.
The 197 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 32.48% with the median still in the red with a YTD loss of -1.75%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a safe and relaxing mid-September weekend biotechies. And for those celebrating the arrival of the Jewish New Year, 5781, L’shana Tovah!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
