Forest Management is very complex, and what works in one place does not necessarily work someplace else.

But in general, professionally managed forests are much more fire resistant that natural ones. You rarely hear about industrial forest land being caught up in a wildfire. Of course, they are ugly as hell. I'm not suggesting that we go that way.

One time I stood on a landing with the rest of the Ranger's staff and we watched our burning crew check fuel moisture in a cutting unit that was ready to burn. They concluded that it was ready to burn, and set it afire. In minutes a spot fire crossed the road and started burning in one of my plantations that was about fifteen years old. It burned around a little on ground fuels and went out.

This scenario is repeated everywhere. Managed forests are very fire resistant.
