X208, UUNET is constantly evaluating both Cisco and (sometimes) 3Com equipment. I saw no Bay, Fore, NN or any of the other major players at their NOC but there may be some at the POPs. They are extremely sensitive to cost, and lately to quality also. UUNET has a massive investment in Ascend and won't walk away from it lightly. They are pretty committed. But they always have their eyes open for something better. The continuing orders from UUNET are extremely positive for Ascend. With respect to their older Ascend Max units, they are all tied together by Cisco boxes, which are in turn tied together by older Cascade boxes. The Max TNT eliminates much of the need for the CSCO equipment. Pete F. I don't know who is supplying Internet gear to MCI but I don't think it is Ascend. Probably 3Com/USR.
