We've gone from 4 million illegal immigrants when Reagan was in office to 11-12 million (at least that is the line someone is feeding us) today, yet here we have it. A head of lettuce costs me almost a dollar more today than it did in the 80s. And that is just one example. I thought all these illegal immigrants, who were willing to do the jobs Americans wouldn't, were going to keep prices down? Or have we had that much inflation?

I think it is pretty obvious that lettuce would cost even more if not for the illegal aliens keeping down labor costs....unless you believe that lettuce farming has some sort of incredible return on investment.

The huge rise in immigration has also taken place during a period of very strong economic growth. I dont believe that it caused the growth, but if they kept down inflation, they have certainly helped. Additionally, the unemployment rate has gone down substantially over the last 20 years even while absorbing those 7-8 million illegal aliens. Take those 11-12 million people out of the labor force, and it is pretty much an automatic that we'll see a substantial rise in prices (especially in services).
