Need upgrade advice. I have been an observer of this site for years-both good times and bad.
I would appreciate one of you techno-gurus providing advice on the following: My son wishes to upgrade a HP Pavilion Model 4550 using a 440ZX/100 chip set and currently operating with a 466 celeron cpu. The mb contains no jumpers to alter the cpu speed, which is apparently fixed on a celeron cpu.
Can I purchase a 1 ghz celeron or some other cpu and install it on this MB and obtain improved performance?
Any suggestions as to a website or thread where I might get answers to this problem?
HP doesn't provide guidance on this type of problem.
Any suggestions appreciated.
