Here is one reason why any estimates about 1st year unit sales forecasts likely will be conservative: No one is reporting consistently on a simple baseline number for total number of CM subscribers, let alone 3G/4G subscribers or iPhones currently in use by CM subscribers.

I've seen in the last week reports ranging from 735 million to 775 million total subscribers and 3G subscribers ranging from 135 million to 190 million.

Add uncertainty about CM enthusiasm to promote and competitive response to promote back by Unicom and Telecom and no one knows enough to make a reliable estimate more than anyone else. In uncertainty, numbers will be conservative.
