RE: elderly debtors

I wonder how many of these felt they had to maintain their dignity by buying a new $30,000 car every two or three years, instead of driving a $15,000 car for ten years.

My daughter is currently driving a 1987 Corolla that I bought brand new fifteen years ago for something like $7,000. 175,000 miles, original engine, original transmission, gets about 30 mpg still. I wish I had got as good a deal on her college education, but that set me back more than $100,000.

I can't believe the folly of these people saddling themselves with $20,000 credit card bills. The monthly interest alone must be $300. You could lease a pretty good car for that.
