Tommoso, many of the elderly had unexpected medical bills and used cards to pay for it. My dad just had a life-threatening infection and survived -- it's easy to suddenly be willing to rack up a lot of debt when you are faced with extinction and have no insurance. More and more people are without insurance (or highly inadequate insurance) in that age group, so it's no surprise about the rising debt problem. Inflation for the elderly, thanks to health care costs, is very, very high; and thanks to Greenboink, fixed income investments that many elderly had are paying only 20-25% of what they paid just two years ago. That has got to hurt.
