Here is a shortened release today from Washington. It covers hacking into government files and Clinton's reaction to it. (Remember the White House got hacked about a month ago.)

Washington D C January 7, 1999

Stepping up vigilance against cyberterrorism, President Clinton plans to announce a new initiative today to protect federal computers from infiltration.

Clinton has frequently expressed concern about the emerging threat that hackers, thieves and other governments pose to the nation's high-tech infrastructure. A top adviser yesterday included cyberterrisiom near the top of a list of threats facing America in the next century.

"I think there's a whole new realm of threat we're going to be dealing with," National Security Advisor Sandy Berger said in response to questions after a National Press Club speech.

Administration officials, speaking anonymously, said Clinton's budget request for 2001 would seek additional funds for monitoring and protecting government computer systems.
