John: Re Syquest, I've always thought that not only the investing public, but also the company, would have been better off with Chapter 11. If they'd gone Chapter 11 in '96 they'd have been able to ditch the unprofitable lines, build a sustainable cost structure, and focus on the brands where they stood a chance of making money. If Syed had been replaced by someone with leadership ability and some imagination it could have been pulled off. As you point out, even failure would have been better for all concerned than the death spiral we've witnessed over the last two years
