Thanks for the excellent article.

I think the very fact that this will be able to be rolled out quickly will help it to set the agenda in consumer interfaces. Regardless of anything else, this will again help keep Microsoft in control of various interfaces for high-volume software services, the continued source of its market power.

After all, the real "convergence" is Microsoft's many independent projects, with approaches that are consistent at least in their requirements for other Microsoft products - all CONVERGING on the competition from different directions!

As Mitch Kapor reportedly once said: "Competing with Bill Gates is like putting your head in a vise and turning the handle. He doesn't take no for an answer, and he keeps coming back." [or was it Kawasaki?]
