i think he was with big red. he told me only one instance when he was in africa surrounded by Germans, already been fighting the french on landing. and he was not happy about that still got some resentments over it.
well, he was surrounded by germans and no water , no food. for about four days.. figure i am 17/18, out here in some crazy country , sand all around me, and i am going to die of thirst. later that day supplies got through the lines to them. after that he hit scilicy i think... again first to land. he didn't go into more details.. i was discussion the book written and mentioned here about two years ago on Africa invasion. i never knew about French supporting Germans over there. he laughs about it now. took him fifty years to get va to pay his disabilities.. he had a personal review, represented himself in washington with his documents. for years they denied him since they lost all his records. so he had to go over and find all medical records etc on his own. they awarded him a lump sum for twenty years back pay. then a few years ago he started after them again saying he should get full back pay. I doubt he will live to see it , very sick now. but exciting guy. It's a shame to see them disappearing.
