Dear Doug:

Mix if anything is going against you, not for you. Higher priced bins are appearing and lower priced bins are disappearing. That usually implies higher ASPs. That also implies that the sweet spots are also increasing else they would waterfall bin prices. They haven't you know. Let's see. Nex DC Opterons, bins priced higher than previous top bins. New A64X2s, bins priced higher than existing bins. Turion ML-40, new bin priced higher than ML-37 bin. First day of Q3, new bin A64 FX-57 priced higher than old A64 FX-55 bin. Triple cheeseburger effect (increaseD sales of double cheeseburgers), cuts in to increase the sweet spot bins, not decreasing them. Your arguments are likely wrong.

One argument not used is a overall decrease in units as A64 sales may not ramp up as fast as AXPs and Socket A Semprons sales ramped down. Then you can have lower or slight up sales in Q2 over Q1. Also supply chain glitches like those supply management software upgrades of a few quarters ago could put a temporary sag in shipments (the recent launches with immediately available products argue against this). We likely wouldn't find out until earnings are out. When is AMD's Q2 earnings due out anyway?

Pete
