The MOT sales VP said, "We think that [the Identicator fingerprint technology] has just an incredible opportunity for us. The market, while small today, is projected to quadruple within the next year or so."
He also noted that MOT was showing a CPQ version in their booth, as well as the PCMCIA card variation, "that allows upgrades to existing PCs."
He also responded, when asked if the fingerprint marketplace was big, described it as "new" and that "I think we don't fully understand all the possible applications yet." He said it would enter the PC space first for password replacement, but "you could imagine" other uses, such as for hotel/motel room keys, or for automobiles.

Quadruple? Does that mean IDX and MOT are projecting over 1M to 2M units sale rate in 2001? Wouldn't that translate into about $.50 EPS for IDX from this line? If MOT can persuade the market about this, it should be good for $10 per share in IDX valuation. And the hotel/motel reference makes me think that it is IDX in the first hotel pilots out there. |
