I agree. To say that Microsoft will command a pe of 10 someday is making a bold assumption about the growth of the entire software industry. Granted Microsoft will be knocked down in a few battles in the future but as long as they keep adapting and changing with what the customer wants they will be fine. The software business is so healthy it is unbelievable. More and more and more things require software to run. Microsoft is perfectly positioned...as are some other companies (Computer Associates, SAP, etc.). The list goes on and on.

Nobody knows what businesses they will elect to move into in the future but you have to assume they will not screw up all of their decisions. I would recommend MSFT as a core holding for any portfolio.
