India to get ethanol-blended petrol from November 1

The Indian government has now given its go ahead to allow sale of ethanol-blended petrol throughout the country from November this year.

Some regions like the Northeast, Jammu & Kashmir, Lakshadweep, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands are being kept out of this program, as they are poorly accessible for this program.

However, the companies would not be required to go ahead with this program, as it would largely depend the availability of ethanol.

On pricing, the government said: “Oil marketing companies have been given complete freedom to protect their commercial interests in arriving at workable ethanol pricing.”

This initiative can become a boon for the agricultural sector in India as we already have a large farmer base, which can expand their production of sugarcane.
