<<In another post today you posted of one of your 28 year old mares. And since I am not a horse person nor do I know much about horses, what does foundered mean? >>

When a horse founders it means the food is too rich. It doesn't go through the digestive system quick enough. Now people will get the runs or farts but in horses the extra rich goes to their feet making them lame. Late spring this year made our grass richer and the mare foundered. That's like a wrist sprain on all 4 feet. A horse that can't stand is a dead horse. If they can't stand their guts will twist and that is ugly. Nasty death.

Horses may be big but they are daymed easy to kill. Too rich food. Too much or little. Or being around Walnuts. Even the wood will kill them.

Here's one about cows. If they eat clover that has the first frost of the fall on it they will bloat and die. All but that one morning they can eat clover.
