My pity for Jude evaporated rather quickly, I'm afraid. You are more kind than I, I suspect.

Marrying a bitch like Arabella was idiotic, especially when his cousin Sue was around. So Sue goes off and marries someone she can't stand and by the time Jude and Sue finally come together, there is too much baggage (symbolized by that grotesque child by Arabella who kills the kids) and the stage is already set for tragedy.

Now that I think of it, everyone needed a good shaking!
