Re: According to this article, looks like Merrill Lynch is going Linux big time, top down. Doesn't mention Intel servers explicitly, but what else would they use for anything below the mainframe?

Well, we run Red Hat 7.2 on dual processor Athlon MP servers. Asus A7M266-D with 1900+ processors, to be exact. Just remember that, like a lot of Xeon motherboards, Red Hat needs APIC 1.4 disabled in the bios(forcing 1.1) on the A7M266-D (but leave the MP table enabled or the second processor won't be used).

One of the more striking differences between Red Hat and Windows 2000 is that Red Hat seems to take better advantage of the second processor - possibly a good sign for SMT on Xeon.

The Asus boards seem to love Red Hat - and Red Hat does very, very, well on the dual processor athlon platform.
