The impossible comps in 2013 vs 2012 were the biggest reason why Apple failed to show bottom line growth in 2013. Very few acknowledge it but 47.4% firm-wide gross margins in FYQ2 2012 following 44.7% in FY Q1 2012 were outliers that led to triple digit EPS growth in Q1 and 90%+ growth in Q2 on 90%+ and 70%+ revenue growth. It caused many people to conclude that Apple's growth had hit a permanent wall. 2014 will prove those conclusions to be flawed.
