"AMD is First Company to reach Production on 300 qmm Wafers" JERRYVALE, CA (Routers News Service) -- AMD announced today that it has beaten Intel in the race to begin production on 300 mm wafers, according to AMD President for Life Jerry Sanders. "Because of our extremely high line yields, approaching 98%, we have decided that the only fair way to meet the menace of Intel and its accounting tricks is to be reporting our wafer diameters in "quantimillimeters," or qmm. What Intel would have to call a "200 mm wafer," because of its yield problems, we are able to call a "300 qmm wafer"," he added. "And so as not to confuse customers used to just "mm," we will drop the "q" in our official press releases."
