Using a blatant lie to attack Supreme Court Nominee Judge Samuel Alito, Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) said on Fox News Sunday “But even more serious, for many people, many people, is the fact that [Judge Alito] opposed the one person, one vote.”
However, Judge Alito has consistently stated that he respects the principle of “one person, one vote”. In a press conference just last week Senate Judiciary Chairman Arlen Specter (R-PA) said “And if you go back to the application form back in '85, a good bit has been made about what [Judge Alito] had to say about reapportionment, and I asked him about that. And he focused on his answer there that it was in college that he developed a deep interest in Constitutional Law, and then talked about disagreements with the Warren Court on a number of matters. And those were -- originated in college. And I asked him about reapportionment, and [Judge Alito] thinks that one man, one vote is very deeply embedded -- is really a principle which is settled and beyond attack.” (Sen. Specter, Press Conference, 12/2/05)
