I have had only one drive failure myself, but power supplies seem to fail on occasion. I don't have a UPS at home OR work. I suspect this is a major source of problems for most disasters. Power fluctuations can cause malfunctions or burnout. Many people have lots of protection, then plug the phone line into their modem, not realizing 4 bazillion volts can fry their system in a storm!

I try to keep my critical stuff in two locations.
