Hi bid_buster, For whatever reasons, many traders in Hong Kong believe the early morning trades in the US are by euphoric or panic stricken retail investors/speculators (depending on whether the mkt went up or down in US AM trade session) and the afternoon sessions are dominated by 'smart money' institutions.

I have no explanation for their belief other then maybe the same big (MSDW, GS, MER, etc) houses manipulate here in HK as they may do in your part of the world. They certainly do manipulate here when they can, because the punishment is light when caught.

The traders in HK thus (a) try to follow the previous afternoon US session or (b) anticipate US morning session.

I notice the anticipation phenomenon especially when S/T market direction turns.

It is unlikely that a HK gambler exits the US and buys HK at the same time, as our economy are very much tied to the US economy on the revenue side, and to the Chinese mainland economy on the cost side.

Chugs, Jay
