Your boy first has a deferment, lost it, applied for another and didn't get it, was told by his draft board he would very likely be drafted, then enlisted in the Navy because it was clearly the safest service, got into an outfit that was doing offshore patrol at that time, then the assignment of the outfit was changed and he found himself on rivers inside Vietnam. He knew 3 Purple Hearts would get him out, so he got them and went home. He got an early discharge to run for Congress. He lost. He then joined VVAW and called his fellow soldiers and vets murderers and war criminals. |
