Broadcom Corporation is a leading developer of highly integrated silicon solutions that enable broadband digital data transmission to the home and within the business enterprise. The Company's products enable the high-speed transmission of data over existing communications infrastructures, most of which were not originally intended for digital data transmission. Using proprietary technologies and advanced design methodologies, the Company has designed and developed integrated circuits for some of the most significant broadband communications markets, including the markets for cable set-top boxes, cable modems, high-speed networking, direct broadcast satellite and terrestrial digital broadcast, and xDSL. Although the communications infrastructures of these markets are very different, the Company has leveraged its core technologies and introduced silicon solutions for each market that deliver the cost and performance levels necessary to enable the widespread deployment of broadband transmission services.
The Company's broadband transmission products consist primarily of high-performance digital signal processing circuits that implement complex communications algorithms, surrounded by precision high-speed analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converter circuits. The Company's products integrate comprehensive systems solutions into single chips or chip-sets, thereby eliminating costly external components, reducing board space, simplifying the customer's manufacturing process, lowering the customer's system costs and enabling higher performance. Customers currently shipping broadband communications equipment incorporating the Company's products include 3Com, Bay Networks, Cisco Systems, General Instrument (formerly known as NextLevel Systems), Motorola and Scientific-Atlanta.
