That's what it is all about. Future earnings.
The question is how does one factor in future earnings to current price. I believe a forward P/E is still a reasonable valuation method. I use a 2 year forward P/E, which is presently about 20 for the S&P 500. On a historical basis, we are at the upper end of the range between 10 to 20.
