I have a feeling that when the PPC starts edging towards 1GHz and if Intel does not keep up then this attitude will turn in favor of the PPC. Of course, if Microsoft was into hardware they would just add a divide-by-2 on the input to the CPU clock and double the system clock going into it: voila! The 266MHz becomes a 532MHz chip and it becomes obvious to the consumer that a 532MHz machine must be better than a 400MHz machine. They could even use slogans such as "New MS processor runs at half the duty cycle of an Intel processor!".
