<< CrossWorlds is not a competitor of SAP. Instead, CrossWorlds' products enable the front office and back office apps to share info. To a certain extent CrossWorlds is helpful to SAP's business. That could be part of the reason SAP is an investor in privately held CrossWorlds.>>

Great discussion going on here folks.

Just to expand on Mike's point, here's an excerpt from The Gorilla Game p. 47:

"...the whole product from a gorilla is worth more than its competitors' whole product. A whole product is the complete set of products and services needed by customers to fulfill whatever value proposition motivated their purchase. . .

"Gorillas have great whole products because every potential business partner gives priority to complementing the market leading solution before they put resources into complementing some other offer. . . As a result more stuff and better stuff comes out in support of the gorilla's offer than anyone else's. This makes the gorilla's offer more valuable to the customer at no additional cost to the gorilla!"

I'm a recent owner of SAPHY because I'm convinced that they've just about nailed down the title of ERP gorilla. Seems to me that the value chain is already in place and SAP has the sweet spot. Bravado from JD Edwards notwithstanding, I don't see what could happen to dislodge SAP at this point. IMO, there's quite a bit of irony in JD Edwards' boasts because a few years ago they could have been the ones to grab this market, but they lacked the vision to do it.

P.S. Re the FAQ, if SSA is listed as a competitor, JDE should probably be listed also. At this point, I'd even consider JDE the more robust of the two.

FWIW,

Mark
