Shares of NOVELL (10-1/8, up 1-1/8 @ 10:25am EDT) in heavy trading
on speculation the company might be the target of a takeover
attempt, traders said. "This rumor is driving up the stock but I
can't say if there's anything substantial behind the rumor," said
one trader. He said with the stock at such a cheap price, many
investors were willing to take a chance and buy shares based on
the speculation alone. IBM was being circulated as a likely buyer
of Novell, he said. Neither company would comment on the rumor.
