richard, I wrote the quality systems for cpq so i know this more than you do.
In fact most of the systems first 10 yrs were written by my dept.
no where have I ever said h/w or s/w is perfect.
but, The mlbf on the cpq's I have are pretty good and I've hard zero hard drive failures...that's all I said and the statistical data could back that up in a home unit where systems are pondered on 8 hrs a day and the hard drives go to sleep.
Why would I go into all that philosophy and strategy on backups if I thought things were perfect.
I will say this. users should never lose data and if they do it's poor I/S group.
and users should have systems up 100% in primetime and all most 100% in off hrs and they should have instant repsonse times.
It can happen with proliants and clustering.
Tie the steve and cpq and the first I/S mgr and first systems person hired at cpq together and jog your memory.....ggggggggg
When I left cpq I got to do it perfect since I call all the shots.
